Art is about connection.
It’s about looking at something that another person made and seeing yourself in it, in them. It’s about suddenly feeling like you’re not alone, that someone else has felt the way you’ve felt and you have proof because you’re seeing it illustrated before your eyes.
Well, I have felt alone. I’ve felt out of place, like I don’t belong, like I’m not good enough. I’ve felt a sadness inside of me that I didn’t know how to heal. I went looking for a way to heal, and this is what I found…earth, water, air…it is all made by the same hand. The sun, the sky, the clouds, all by the same hand - the same hand that made you. We are all one. All of that love, that light, that happiness…it already exists inside all of us.
I believe in the importance of using your voice for something purposeful that will make a difference in people’s lives and the focus of my work has that motive at its core. Art should be a source of expression, as well as connection among people, creating the opportunity for people to explore their feelings and discuss topics they may not normally talk about with others, all the while sharing the deep fulfillment that comes from connecting.
The world is filled with so much darkness, but also so much light. In the monotony of daily life, sometimes we can forget that & allow our struggle to triumph over our strength. We can never forget that any suffering we go through is sent to develop us into our highest selves. We can so easily become jaded & lose sight of all of the beauty around us & within us. We must never forget that. My hope is to create work that reminds us of this.
